About a year ago, an old building of 1858 was transformed into a traditional guesthouse that combines all contemporary comforts. It was never completely finished since the men of the village had to go to war, but the Vasilikou family decided to fully restore it with a lot of taste and personal work.
Over the years, the house had many uses. For some time, the ground floor used to operate as a coffee shop; other times it used to be an oven-house where they hang and smoked pork. At the upper room lived a seamstress that taught the young girls of the village to sew.
The family guesthouse was named after Olea europaea, the most common olive tree in Greece, by the young and friendly biologist Dora. About a year ago, Dora left her job in Athens to undertake the management of the guesthouse, which is located at the village at the fortified settlement of Fourniata, in Pirgos Dirou, 7 km from Aeropolis and very close to Diros Caves. There is a choice of four luxurious and well-equipped rooms (Rouga, Liako, Thea, Gaia), all of which have traditional elements (wood and stone) and are thus very well harmonized with the local architecture. In the rooms, you can find anything you need, even a tablet and there are also signs of the braille method everywhere. It is obvious from the first look that every piece of the guesthouse has been selected with a lot of attention.
Everyday a delicious breakfast with fresh local ingredients is prepared by Dora. You have the opportunity to choose whatever you want to eat but for sure you must taste her omelet! Breakfast can be served in your room or at the tables in the yard.
There are a lot of things you can do near the guesthouse. You can go swimming at the beautiful beaches of the area, you can visit Diros Caves and the surrounding areas of Mani, like Vathia, Gerolimena, Limeni, Oitylo and of course Areopolis. What is more, you can go for a walk at the area or do horse riding at the local horse riding associations.
At Olea you have the feeling that you are in your own house and this is exactly what Dora wants her guests to feel. As for her future goals, she wishes to include more activities at the guesthouse like cooking lessons with local recipes. Concluding, relaxation and Greek hospitality are the words that describe your vacation at Olea!
