Exploring Folegandros

The Lighthouse of Aspropouda

Folegandros, isn’t Greece best – kept secret any more neither our hidden a gem. It’s a small Cycladic island, a sculpture miniature in Aegean Sea. Folegandros is an  island with a sorcerous aura placed like a haut couture veil over the sun-touched cliffs. The hours of magic are these near sunset when the sky paints the cliffs and the deep blue of Aegean Sea offers bounteous an infinity view.

The Lighthouse of Aspropouda

For the view and for the sake of adventure, a windless afternoon we decided to explore the lighthouse of Aspropouda.  After an incredible wonderful day on Livadaki beach we walked along a footpath to reach the lighthouse. It took us about an hour (including the stops for capturing the landscape). I will never forget that moment, it was almost breathless ...

The lighthouse is 58 meters above the sea level and it started operating in 1921. From 1986 the lighthouse is operating on solar energy.
